Uwaila Stewart

Program Coordinator for Gender and Sexuality, Multicultural Student Services Center

Uwaila Stewart (she/her) is a graduate of The George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health with a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health. Uwaila received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health-Population Health at Central Washington University. During her time, she worked as the peer health educator for sexual health and healthy relationships at the school’s Wellness Center and served as a peer mentor for THRIVE: Women of Color mentorship organization. She spent much of her undergraduate program researching health disparities in sexual health, reproductive health, and maternal/child health among Black and African American women and birthing people across the US. She continued this dedication to her research and community service during her graduate program where she interned at a women’s health organization in D.C. and became a labor support volunteer. Uwaila is passionate about health education and hopes to use her background in public health as she works as the Program Coordinator for Gender and Sexuality in the Multicultural Student Services Center
(MSSC).

During her time as a graduate student at GW, Uwaila worked as the Graduate Student Program Assistant for GW’s Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement. Through this role, she created inaugural programs such as GradConnect and Viva Voce: Faculty Series centered around intentional spaces for graduate students to explore topics related to code-switching, imposter syndrome, and the importance of community. Uwaila hopes to use the skills she has attained from both of her programs and her work on campus to continue creating impactful programming and supporting students through her work at the MSSC.

Uwaila is proudly Nigerian and is originally from Piscataway, New Jersey. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and exploring new places in the DMV with her family and friends.
