Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration (AAPIHC)

In 1992, May was designated Asian American and Pacific American Heritage Month. A rather broad term, Asian American and Pacific Islander encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu).

GW presented its first annual Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration (APIHC) in 2004. To allow members of the GW community to participate in the celebration before the end of the academic school year, April was designated as the official GW APIHC, promoting the values and traditions of East Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Island cultures.

The MSSC does not host these events, but offers logistical support for student organizations who request it.
