Community & Belonging Programming

At the heart of the Multicultural Student Services Center’s (MSSC) programming is dynamic spaces for students to find community, foster belonging, and learn new ways to be creative and experience joy. Open to all students, the MSSC’s Community and Belonging programs are student-led and student focused, with the underlying reminder that at GW and in the MSSC, community can be closer than you think.

Our programs are created and led by our Graduate Assistant for Undergraduate Student Belonging and our Undergraduate Student Staff. Each program is purposefully designed to address the many interests of our vast student population. With intentionally curated spaces in the MSSC, our Community and Belonging programs are often centered around a specific theme inspired by student feedback and suggestions. These programs can often involve different art forms, snacks, pop-up community moments, and more. The hope is that as students attend these programs regularly, they begin to form lasting connections with other students across the campus.

Knowing that building community at any stage of your academic journey can be challenging, the MSSC offers Community and Belonging programs that provide accessible, low-barrier opportunities for students to engage in ways that best meet their needs. While some programs emphasize conversation, connection, and relationship-building, others offer low-pressure environments where students can recharge and support their mental wellness and overall well-being. Together, these offerings recognize that fostering a sense of community and belonging looks different for every student and that meaningful connection can be built through both social engagement and opportunities to simply be.
