At the Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC), our Race, Ethnicity & Culture Programming brings students together to celebrate the richness of our diverse identities while building meaningful connections across communities. Through monthly programs, we create dynamic spaces that honor lived experiences and invite students to engage in deeper conversations that challenge perspectives and inspire growth.
What do we mean by Race, Ethnicity, and Culture?
Race is a socially constructed concept that groups people based on perceived physical characteristics. Ethnicity refers to shared cultural traits such as nationality, language, ancestry, and traditions. Culture encompasses the values, practices, beliefs, and expressions that shape how individuals and communities experience the world. Together, these identities influence how we see ourselves and how we connect with others.
Our programming is both engaging and educational. Through interactive workshops, dialogue-based discussions, and community-centered experiences, we encourage students to explore identity, develop cultural awareness, and engage critically with issues of equity and inclusion. These experiences are designed to foster understanding, encourage reflection, and empower students to be active participants in creating inclusive communities.
