Celebration 2020

Seventeenth Annual
Multicultural Student Services Center

Block Party 2021

Friday, September 3rd
4:00 - 8:00 PM
University Yard

Every year since September of 2004, the George Washington University (GW) Multicultural Student Services Center (MSSC) has hosted the MSSC Block Party, a community-wide gathering of faculty, staff, alumni, and students who celebrate diversity and inclusion. Please join us for information sharing, community building, music, culture, dancing, and fun as we welcome the Classes of 2024 and 2025.

We are partnering with the Division for Student Affairs and the Office of Student life to bring more than 110 Multicultural & Ally student organizations and select departments to this annual M/C Student Organization celebration of culture and family.

Later in the afternoon, we will share a few MSSC dance traditions including a few line dances, the Faculty Staff Wobble, the MSSC take on the Detroit Hustle, and then.... we Palance.

Next, Cultural Performance Organizations, the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and the National PanHellenic Student Council community (NPHC/Divine 9 Historically Black Fraternities and Sororities) will welcome the community with their talent, warmth, and showpersonship!

The purpose of the Block Party is to ensure that first year, second year, and transfer students feel welcomed, connected, and have a strong sense of belonging to the GW community. As established faculty and staff, you are also "family" here. The "MSSC" is both a physical and philosophical "Home Away from Home" for hundreds of students from every background and identity each year and thousands of GW Alumni of color over the years. Join us for an incredibly relational seventeen-year tradition.

Please note, wearing a MASK is encouraged & recommended.

Since 2002, Chamak has been representing GW’s diverse community through a blend of various dance forms, including Bollywood, Bhangra, classical, burlesque, hip hop, lyrical etc. We exist on the common understanding that dance is more than just movement- it is a way of life. This philosophy has allowed us to bring folk dances from India, Russia, Latin America, Armenia, Egypt, etc. right to GW’s community. Chamak performs at various events and showcases throughout the year. We start out each season with fresh ideas on how to promote a celebration of diversity through dance. We dance for laughter, we dance for madness, we dance for ourselves, and we dance for you.
